May is Bike and Walk Month! To celebrate and help create a cohesive vision for all of Local Motion’s events in Burlington, Vermont I worked closely with the Membership and Communications Coordinator to create a logo in keeping with the recent design styles of the stencil campaigns for pedestrian and cyclist safety. We wanted a fun but clean design using blues and greens with some yellow as an accenting color to visually incorporate springtime and cheer as basic themes to support the logo.
Logo In Use
Local Motion recently changed their cover photo on Facebook to an image of the logo at the top of an events poster for the month of May to promote Bike Walk Month in Burlington Vermont!
Design Reasoning
I paired two fonts together to create a play between functional and playful. The font used for “Burlington” and “Bike Walk Month” in the logos maintain clean lines with a strong, masculine feel. The pointed styling to the letters adds personality while keeping a functional feeling to the overall tone. Its juxtaposition with the youthful, bold roundness of the “May 2014” font creates a visual conversation between the themes present in Bike Walk Month. There is the underlying structure of people-powered transportation that comes with safe riding practices and awareness of other modes of transportation on the road, but also the energetic dynamic of spring allowing for more people to engage in non-motorized ways of travel and the events series working to engage those people.
